  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Team Form – Recent Performances

Tottenham have had a hugely inconsistent last five matches. Most recently they lost 4-0 at Newcastle United, but also have wins over Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, while they also lost at Fulham and drew with West Ham – all in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s last match was a morale-crushing defeat at home to Aston Villa, with a recent draw at Manchester City. They have two victories against Luton and Brighton, but also drew 2-2 at home to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final of this season’s Champions League.

Tactical Battle – Managers’ Strategies Unveiled

In a 4-3-3 setup, Tottenham play with a high line, and Ange Postecoglou focuses on men pressing without the ball and crowding the midfield. Forwards and midfielders try to find space left by the pressing from their opponents. He makes sure at least one full-back presses high alongside his wingers, and attacking midfielders join the attack to create an overload.

Mikel Arteta often uses a 4-2-4 formation with the two strikers high up the pitch, with a full-back inverting to join midfield and outnumber the opposition. That formation can change to 3-2-2-3 in the high build-up.

Key Players – Influential Figures on the Pitch

Heung-min Son has 15 goals already this season and is likely on course for 20 over the rest of the season, and has made Harry Kane’s departure more than manageable. In Pape Matar Sarr they have found a young midfielder capable of bossing the centre of the pitch, and Micky van de Ven has been tipped for the top by none other than Rio Ferdinand, despite his recent error against Newcastle.

Martin Odegaard captains the side and leads by example in midfield, while Kai Havertz’s recent goalscoring run – he has 10 already for the season – has transformed the Arsenal attack in recent weeks. At the back, the partnership of William Saliba and Ben White could keep Arsenal capable in defence for the next decade.

Head-to-Head History – Past Encounters

Almost 200 matches (194) have been played between the two sides, with Arsenal winners of 81, and Spurs 61.

Back in 1971, Arsenal won the league at White Hart Lane, and also did the same in 2004 in their famous Invincible campaign. Tottenham have had their moments, too. They defeated Arsenal 5-0 in 1983, and in 1991, Tottenham won the classic semi-cup final with an astonishing free kick from Paul Gascoigne helping them to the final, which they won,

Pre-match Analysis – Crucial Factors

For Arsenal, much of the motivation will rest on whether they still feel they are in the race for the Premier League, as Manchester City seem to be favourites once again. Mikel Arteta will need to make sure that his defence is able to track the runs of Son and keep Timo Werner at bay should he make an appearance.

Bukayo Saka should be a tough opponent for Ange Postecoglou’s high backline, and with two managers who tend to crowd the backline, it puts pressure on both sides to keep possession and not slip up in defence.
