FAN-PICKED TEAM WINS 6:0

Cypriot First Division club Apollon FC took fan engagement to the next level today, having won 6:0 against rivals Aris Limassol in a friendly match played at Tsirio Stadium, with a line-up picked by their fans through fan voting & rewards app Socios.com.

Fans, who had previously bought $APL Fan Tokens, used blockchain technology to vote in a series of polls, first to choose the formation of the team, and then selecting the attacking players. 

64.97% of fans chose 4-2-3-1 as the preferred formation, with Matei, Dinduiny, Larsson and Benschop chosen as the attackers. 

Three of the four players selected scored in the first half: 

28’: Benschop

34’: Diguiny

38’: Matei 

Markovic scored at 42’ and Gakpe at 59’, with the match finishing at 6:0 after an own goal in the first half by Aris. 

Before the match, Apollon FC Head Coach Sofronis Avgousti said: “As a club, we want to have a connection with our fans and represent them in the best way possible…we will give our fans the chance to help me and the rest of the team with the selection and hopefully, they will appreciate the fact that we value their opinion.”

During the match, Apollon FC’s Fan Token ($APL) went up by 13%.
