UEFA Conference League Semi-Finals Qualifiers and Matches

UEFA Conference League Semi-Finals Qualifiers and Matches_

Qualified Teams for the Semi-Finals

For this season’s Europa Conference League semi-finals, Aston Villa will take on OIympiacos, while the other side of the draw sees  Fiorentina face Club Brugge. Ayoub El Kaabi, Ollie Watkins, Igor Thiago and Nicolas Gonzalez could all shine after the four sides battled their way into the last four.

Matches in the Semi-Finals

The Europa Conference League offers a chance for some of the smaller European sides to land a trophy in front of a whole continent’s audience. For Aston Villa, they could finish in both the top four and secure a trophy with Unai Emery. Olympiacos are often out of the running except for their national leagues, while Club Brugge are minnow on the European stage. For Fiorentina it is a throwback to their glory years when they had one of the most frightening line-ups in Europe.

Venues for the Semi-Final Matches

Villa Park will soon be redeveloped to hold more than 50,000 people ahead of Euro 2028, and over the years it has hosted European finals, classic FA Cup semi-finals including Ryan Giggs’ brilliant winner for Manchester United in the 1999 treble season, and Villa’s own European Cup winning season in 1982.

The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium is perhaps best known for hosting the 1896 Summer Olympics, and after several stages of usage, it has been redeveloped to a capacity of 33,334.  It was completely rebuilt for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Stadio Artemio Franchi was opened in 1931 and has been redeveloped three times. Once for the 1990 World Cup, then in 2013, and again this year for a capacity of 43,147. It has also played host to two Serie A title-winning seasons, and one European Cup, as well as their runners-up campaign in this very tournament last year.

The Jan Breydel Stadium holds 29,062 supporters, and is a shared ground between Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge, and was opened in 1975.

Team Analysis and Predictions

Unai Emery’s employment of a 4-4-2 this season that allows players plenty of flexibility but focuses on direct attacking and solid defence has seen Aston Villa become one of the most entertaining teams in the Premier League, capable of beating even the very best teams.

Olympiacos use 4-3-3 to their advantage and their figurehead is Ayoub El Kaabi, who has 20 goals already for the season with the chance of making it 30 if he continues his exceptional  form.

Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano often employs a 4-3-3 system that again allows for quick attacks, linked to a high press to win the ball back quickly and transition at speed.

Club Brugge usually adopt a 4-2-3-1 strategy with focus on switching play across the pitch and pushing forward down the flanks.
